About Floating

Floating is a unique experience for both body and mind. You get the opportunity to enjoy total relaxation and silence, taking with it with you the rest of the day and even week.

We have two large floating rooms (2.5m x 2m) with the option of meditative music and the starry sky, and in floating room 1 there are also handicap handles.

The principle behind floating is simple. You lie down in water  filled with Epsom salt, which makes you float effortlessly. The experience can be compared to floating in the Dead Sea. Epsom salt, or magnesium sulfate as it is actually called, is known for its unique ability to draw waste materials out of the body while magnesium is added through the skin. Your skin will become silky smooth and the magnesium supply acts as an energy boost and at the same time relieves stress.

The water is skin-tempered and making it hard to know which part of the body is above or below the water. We also remove other sensory impressions such as noise. Thus, the brain does not have to deal with external stimuli or gravity. The body then returns to its natural balance and all the muscles have the opportunity to relax completely.

It feels a bit strange at first as you are used to being bombarded with impressions at all times of the day. The nerves are on high tension and overstimulated. We don't feel it – it's just how we normally exist.

When you suddenly remove everything, it is noticeable. It can be hard to know how to relax without any stimuli, and that's completely normal.

But, once you get over that problem (approx. 15-20 minutes) and manage to enjoy existence without sensory impressions, you get a deep contact with your inner self. Many say they hit themselves, as they have nowhere to hide.

Floating was invented by the American neuroscientist John C. Lilly since the 1954s and has since been developed by NASA to simulate weightlessness. In recent years, research has been carried out on the effects of floating and the results show that there are a number of health benefits.

Floating has a documented effect against:

  • Stress

  • Sleep problems

  • High blood pressure

  • Exhaustion

  • Muscle pain (myalgia), back pain, muscle cramps and chronic muscle pain

  • Migraines

  • Anxiety

  • Stimulates the natural production of endorphins

  • Inflammation

  • Toxins

  • Arthritis

Everyone can benefit from floating and is used by many to get away from everyday stress, by artists to increase creativity, by athletes to reduce recovery and by people in the financial industry to keep calm and make the right decisions.

Floating is also a good supplement to massage, yoga and meditation. The brain frequency during floating is actually measured at the same as in deep meditation, theta waves. This state of mind can also be used for improved focus, memory, problem solving and visualization skills.

Comedian, podcaster, MMA commentator and businessman Joe Rogan is best known for his use of floatation therapy, and he often speaks warmly of its therapeutic benefits. He has this to say about the experience:

"I think it's one of the most incredible pieces of equipment for self-help and introspective thought you can ever find."

Football player Wayne Rooney believes that using floatation therapy helped him to recover faster and get back on the football pitch faster after injuries.

John Lennon used 90 minutes of flow to help him quit heroin.

Athlete Carl Lewis used float tank visualization techniques to help him win 2 gold medals and 1 silver medal in the 1988 Seoul Olympics.

Model Elle Macphearson uses floatation therapy for relaxation, but also as natural skin care.

No matter what your need is, and no matter if you don't feel like you have your shoulders under your ears all the time - float therapy might be worth a try. Then you can assess how big a difference there is between your ordinary existence that is influenced by external stimuli and an existence that flows from your own body, and nothing else.

Get in touch with yourself - float away and renew yourself.
